  1. In my opinion, the International Day of Peace is a really important holiday. To start with, the International Peace means a feeling of comfort, freedom from war and terror, freedom of choice etc.
Unfortunately, every time I turn on the news someone is dead or someone is rioting or someone is struggling and it just makes me feel so worried and disappointed. I totally agree with the message because It reminds people of the importance of peace. Also it gives a message to the whole world to respect each other because peace can be created only if people respect each other and fight all the problems together. "The barriers to peace are complex and steep - no one country can solve them alone." What is more, it's great that we have such organizations as UNESCO as they make much of an affront to build peace through education, freedom of expression, intercultural dialog etc. Although it's really hard but we have to use all of our power, hearts and manpower to let peace prevail on Earth.

  2. I can not disagree with the Director-General of UNESCO because I can not deny everything that was written in her letter. Over the past 100 years, the world has become much more global and therefore these problems are now as relevant as ever. And it will be very difficult to solve these problems. But in my opinion this is possible if we made some changes in two areas: first in our heads and then in society (international organizations like the UN). As for the personality, it won't be easy for me to explain and it is better to leave this question to our philologists (10 A).
I'll just say that some people should be more tolerant to other people. And about the society I have a proposal. I believe that it's necessary to increase the role of the UN as a world mediator and, in particular, to increase its rights and opportunities to influence the course of events.
At the same time, the UN should carefully select people to high posts so that there is no complete bias towards the decisions of the organization. While I think that the United Nations is more like not the United Nations organization but the arena of political battles and clarification of the relations between the opposing sides.

  3. Thank you, Lisa and Slava, for your thoughtful comments. For sure, we should use the power of our hearts instead of the power of guns to resolve all our conflicts.

  4. Well, I think, that for some reasons International Day of Peace is quite a good holiday, because it reminds us of a one of the most deadliest issue of humanity - war. And about Director-General speach: well, I think, that her speech was quite "patterned", because we all know what United Nations stands for. But it also wasn't her fault, because there are really not a lot things to tell about.
So, my opinion is that until there some small and independent countries opposing great powers, war is inevitable. I think, that the problem is that humanity just can't stay united and at peace until there are any cultures and nations (nations, not peoples) on Earth. Because when some group of people grows big enough, it starts to divide into smaller groups and so on. And this process continues, creating cultures, traditions, nations. But then, they start to struggle, for many reasons: resources, territories or for whatever reasons, just because they are "different" groups. So what I'm trying to say is that until humanity exists in the form of "groups", there can be no world peace. And perhaps, the only reason for what those groups will unite is some kind of common problem, that will be that big and dangerous that it can wipe the whole humanity, but until that time, the best thing we can do, is to be prepared for the worst, because as one smart man told "If you want to live in peace, be prepared for war".

    1. That's a pity that humanity has evolved in many ways, including the technological progress, but it can't grow out of the primitive way of thinking like proving who is the best.
